Pathways Winter Fun Day

Join your fellow Pathwaysians for an afternoon of winter fun as we head up to Meyer Ranch Open Space Park this Sunday, February 24th.

We'll be there from 2:00-5:00 to sled, snowshoe, drink hot cocoa, and generally have a great time!
Never tried snowshoeing before? Don't sweat it;
Our very own Terence Hughes will be on hand for expert guidance and instruction.

Daily equipment rentals are available at REI and most winter sports shops, so pick up some gear and meet us on the mountain!

Located just west of Denver, Meyer Ranch is a short 30 minute drive from South High School.

Hope to see you there!

Reflections for Lent 2008

The season of Lent is just underway. The Lenten season is an ancient observance in the Christian church worldwide in which followers of Christ prepare themselves for Holy Week which culminates with Easter Sunday. Many times followers of Christ will both give up something and add something to their regular routine. The giving up or fasting is symbolic of Jesus' 40-day fast after his baptism just prior to the beginning of his public ministry. It is also a reminder of what Jesus gave up for us so that we may be restored to the Father.

Many people will also add something during this time. This typically takes the form of a spiritual discipline such as reading scripture, prayer, solitude, silent retreats, etc. By adding a discipline of this sort, we intentionally seek to connect with God while reflecting on our own humanity and need for him. Many people in the Pathways Church community are using a resource created by one of our own. It is a daily Lent guide using prayer, scripture reading, and reflection. If you would like to take advantage of this great resource go to http://www.pathwayschurch.org/pdf/Lent2008.pdf.

New Times & New Groups at South

The times are changing on Sunday mornings at South High. We will now gather every Sunday morning at 9:30am for community groups and classes. Then we will all worship together at 11:00am.

Additionally there will be a new class and a new group that meets on Sundays.

Christianity 101: Begins Feb 10th. If you are new to the Christian faith or want to know more about it then this class is for you. Contact Erin Layne for more info (erin.layne@uscm.org).

Centering Prayer Group: Need some time for spiritual reflection and integration? Why not meet here at South on Sunday mornings, before the worship service, with others who also want some “God time?” Bill and Phyllis Klein will be guiding a low-key introduction to liturgical prayer, the scripture meditation process called lectio divina, and quiet attentiveness to God’s Spirit. Beginning February 17 at 10:00, classroom TBA. Drop-ins, explorers, and enquirers welcome! Contact Phyllis for more info by email at pkpilgrim@hotmail.com.

You are welcome to drop-in to any of the Sunday morning groups and classes. Here is a list of current options:

Ash Wednesday

Today is Ash Wed and the beginning of Lent. This season is one of preparation as we move toward Christ’s passion and resurrection. You might read how Jesus was tested in the desert after his baptism in Matthew 4:1-11 as a beginning to this season. Hopefully you got to participate in one of the three services at TEC today.

Anyway, here is a link to a great resource for you. It is a daily scripture reading and reflection question for each day of Lent. It was put together by our very own Phyllis Klein. Feel free to use it for you personal devotion.

Group Leader Dinners

Karla and I are excited to start hosting a monthly group leader dinner. We think it will be great to connect with leaders in our homes while sharing a meal and a discussion. The dinners we have hosted in the past have been a great learning experience for us and other leaders. We learn about the great things happening in groups and some best practices that have been successfully tried. It is also a good time to share struggles and difficulties that arise whenever you get a group of people together.

The dinner this month will be on Tuesday, Feb 26 at Karla's house. In case you are wondering who Karla is, she is the director of small groups at Uptown. I work in conjunction with her to support, resource, and promote all the groups that Pathways offers.
